The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 Hellraiser DVD exhibits a sharper, more detailed image when compared to the previously released non-anamorphic DVD. Still, there are some scenes that exhibit a soft focus. The picture can't hide its '80s appearance, but looks generally good with rich, nicely balanced colors. Fleshtones occasionally look a bit orange, but blacks are consistently deep. Minor pixelization is noticed, and fine details shimmer slightly on occasion. Source element artifacts are detected on occasion, as is minor film grain. The remastered Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel soundtrack is palpably spacious and engrossing with notable split surround envelopment. Fidelity is noticeably dated, and some background hiss can be noticed during quiescent moments. The audio is also constrained in terms of the low-end, though some low-frequency extraction from the music has been used to provide for some .1 LFE. The aged recording limits the natural tonality of voices. Compared to the previous DVD (in which the audio was two-channel stereo), this soundtrack re-purposing offers a dramatic improvement in terms of dimension.
